UNDP and Unilever build an Allanblackia oil supply chain in Tanzania

Summary

Working together, UNDP and Unilever created a project to combat poverty in Tanzania by helping to establish a locally owned supply chain for oil made from the seed of the Allanblackia tree.

Allanblackia oil can be used in products such as margarines and soaps. The planned supply chain would provide local farmers, who currently earn less than US$1 a day, with a promising new source of income. Additionally, the project demonstrates positive environmental impact by bringing value to Non-Timber Forest Products.
