ILO encourages new businesses in China
Summary
The Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) Program of the International Labor Organization (ILO) is a system of inter-related practical management-skills training packages providing comprehensive business-management training and non-financial support to the owners/managers of small and growth-oriented small and medium enterprises. It encompasses a range of cost-effective and practical training, monitoring and evaluation methodologies and instruments. The system is designed and continues to be adapted in order to meet the management training needs of potential and existing small business owners.
The ILO Start and Improve Your Business (SYIB) Program in China aims to reduce poverty, create employment, and develop the private sector. The overall SIYB program has provided training to 760,000 people in more than 100 cities all over China. To date, more than 240,000 people laid off from work have started their own business, and 35,287 small enterprises have been created, now employing about 620,000 people. Upon its completion, the Chinese government will further expand and develop this project, funded by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DfID).
