UNAIDS (Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS):
Business partnerships for addressing Sexual Violence against Girls

UNAIDS would like to hear from companies and business hubs interested in addressing Sexual Violence against Girls
UNAIDS is part of an initiative which longer-term goals include
• establishment of in-country violence prevention stations
• extension of support services including health care to victims of sexual violence
• pursuit of changes in national policies, law enforcement and social norms to protect vulnerable children (particularly girls) from sexual violence
The ultimate goal is to establish an unstoppable force that will result in fundamental and sustained positive change in the treatment of adolescent and pre-adolescent girls.
Partners of the initiative are: US Centers for Disease Control, CDC Foundation, Grupo ABC, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNAIDS, UNIFEM and the Nduna Foundation
The initiative was launched in September 2009

Below are the activities:
• The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) commits to expanding resources at the Division of Violence Prevention (dependent on funding) and implement survey methodology and other interventions in additional countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, Papua New Guinea, China, Vietnam and Thailand.
• The CDC Foundation commits to serving as a coordinating body for receiving and allocating funds to appropriate areas of the CDC, monitoring progress and reporting back to donors and other key stakeholders.
• The Nduna Foundation commits to substantial financial resources to launch this effort.
• Grupo ABC commits to providing global in-kind media and communications services to mobilize social and behavioral changes that will reduce sexual violence against girls. This includes developing media content through platforms such as PSAs, soap operas, etc. Grupo ABC is also leading efforts to integrate messages regarding the urgent need to address sexual violence against girls into the social messaging of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
• The UN agencies (UNICEF, UNFPA, UNAIDS and UNIFEM) are endorsing this initiative and plan to integrate these efforts with ongoing projects and activities that are being pursued within the UN system, such as the Inter Agency Task Force on Adolescent Girls
• BD commits to continue leading the advocacy and coalition building effort for this initiative, and to provide donor funding.
