Overview
Energy costs are a major burden on low income families in the United States, often pricing them out of the housing market when combined with high rent costs. Energy efficiency measures have not reached these families as compared with other populations. MSL Group, Inc. is focused on bringing both energy efficiency and renewable energy to low income families residing in multi-family housing. Families will benefit from lower energy costs and these savings will also have a larger impact in preserving housing affordability. In addition, our company will focus on training and hiring individuals in the same communities we are serving to increase economic development in these areas. Our stated goal is to reach one million households by 2020.
2020 – Reduce, by 2020 (baseline year 2015), scope 2 CO2e emissions by 40% and energy costs by 30% for one million low income households in the United States.
MSL Group, Inc. in 2016 has begun implementing both energy efficiency and renewable energy projects for low income households residing in multi-family properties in the state of Connecticut in the United States. Direct energy efficiency measures include for example conversion to LED lighting, insulation, upgrading heating equipment and building automation systems. Renewable energy includes conversion to solar power and combined heat and power (CHP) systems. MSL Group, Inc. will obtain existing electricity and gas histories for each tenant, implement energy measures, track reductions in kilowatt hours and BTUs and then report both CO2e reductions and direct cost savings to each household.
