The Guardian Weekly Focuses on Giving a Voice to Children in Business

Building on what it means for businesses to respect and support children’s rights, the Guardian Sustainable Business section, in collaboration with UNICEF, dedicated an entire week to the theme “Giving Children a Voice in Business”. The topic was chosen in order to generate ideas and input towards the development of a tool for business on engaging children and young people as stakeholders in 2014.

UNICEF headquarters and colleagues in Uganda and India worked in collaboration with young people and businesses such as MasterCard and Kuoni. A joint article with ITU highlighted the call for consultation on the Child Online Protection Guidelines. An on-line youth writing contest with the Voices of Youth platform provided two young people with the opportunity to voice their opinions through a selection of quotes and two articles which received very positive uptake.

Across the five days, a total of 16 pieces of content went live on the GSB site, 10 of which were interactive pieces of content including photo galleries, a live discussion which generated 200 comments and blogs from experts and beneficiaries. Overall, it generated over 10,000 pages views in one week from an audience in more than 50 countries, with 30% French audience and 28% UK audience.
