UNESCO-Samsung cultural heritage partnership

UNESCO and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (Republic of Korea) launched a partnership project for the promotion and preservation of cultural heritage.

UNESCO seeks more visibility and awareness when it comes to the importance of safeguarding of cultural heritage. By sharing its resources and networks, Samsung help promote the visibility of UNESCO’s efforts in this field.

Cultural heritage is defined as “the practices, representations, expressions, as well as the knowledge and skills, that communities, groups and, in some cases, individuals recognise as part of their cultural heritage.” As an example the picture portrays The Sbek Thom, shadow theatre, a Cambodian ceremony which was almost wiped out under the repressive Khmer Rouge regime but since 1979 has undergone a revival thanks to a few surviving artists.
