Cisco, Microsoft and UNESCO launch new UNESCO ICT teacher training project

The “Consultative Meeting and Launch of the Next Generation of Teachers Project”, was convened by UNESCO at the Imperial Queens Park Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, from 16 to 18 May 2006. The aim of the meeting was to share with the representatives from the participating countries the project’s aims and objectives, and compile information about the current situation in TEIs in the 10 participating countries regarding ICT integration and learner-centred methods of instruction.

The meeting was organised by the ICT in Education Unit of the UNESCO Bangkok office, with the support of project partners Microsoft and Cisco Systems.

Participants of the meeting included representatives from Ministries of Education and Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) from the ten countries in the Asia-Pacific region chosen to pilot the “Next Generation of Teachers” project. Those countries are Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, People’s Republic of China, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Viet Nam.

The three-day Meeting drew on the participants’ knowledge and experience to further develop and shape the project and its activities, as well as to refine needs analysis instruments.
