Chevron and Citibank set up Kazakh business advisory centre

Summary

Currently, UNDP and the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) are involved with the private sector in an innovative development project in Kazakhstan’s Caspian region.

A Business Advisory Centre, funded by Chevron and Citibank, has been established to provide critically needed advisory services and training to micro and small business owners in the region. A micro-credit facility will soon follow, enabling access to funding for small entrepreneurs, who are currently unable to access funding from commercial sources. This project utilizes a number of UN Volunteers to provide the ongoing services to local entrepreneurs, as well as a volunteer bringing significant expertise in small business development recruited through UNV’s International Short Term Advisory Resources (UNISTAR) programme.
