Summary

A/C.2/55/7,2001/10/10

The Note Verbale delivered to the Secretary-General requests the UN to circulate a document attached as an Annex, entitled, “World Business Message for the UN Millennium Association on the role of the UN in the 21st Century”. The message is from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) speaking on behalf of enterprises from all sectors in every part of the world.

The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) reminds the UN that the goals of the United Nations, peace and development, are fully compatible with the goals of the business community, creating wealth and prosperity, and urges the UN to continue to work closely with the business community world-wide, reminding the UN of the central role of the private sector and the important contribution that enterprise initiative makes to economic development and social progress worldwide. The note points out that the goals of the UN, creating peace and development, and the goals of business, creating wealth and prosperity, are mutually supportive, and encourages the UN to continue its efforts to create a fairer world in which sustainable development is possible, by, among other things, promoting good governance and an environment that is favourable to business and enterprise.
