Special Program on Philanthropy with the United Nations

Each year, in recognition of International Corporate Philanthropy Day, the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the UN Office for Partnerships, in conjunction with CECP, host a special program on opportunities for philanthropy to help advance the Millennium Development Goals. The February 28, 2011 event will focus on Millennium Development Goal 2, commitments in regard to Universal Primary Education. In particular, two priority areas will be addressed which can benefit from the involvement of philanthropic organizations and the private sector:

  • Enabling access for children, both boys and girls alike, to a full course of primary schooling; and
  • Promoting education and training in the world of work.

Registration
Representatives from CECP’s member companies are invited to attend this event, for which there is no fee. Registrations are managed through the United Nations ECOSCO office directly, with an RSVP deadline of Friday, January 28, 2011.

3rd Annual Event on the Women’s Empowerment Principles
9 – 10 March 2011

One year after the launch of the Women’s Empowerment Principles, representatives from the private sector, Government, civil society and the UN will meet at UN Headquarters to take stock of how the Principles have been operationalized to advance company efforts to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community and identify areas for improvement.

The UN Millennium Development Goals, the Global Compact and the Common Good

The conference will bring together leading businesses that are both mainstreaming the UN Global Compact’s ten principles concerning human and labor rights, environmental care and anti-corruption in their businesses and taking action to advance the Millennium Development Goals. The event will be organized be the Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Religious Values in Business at the Mendoza College of Business, in partnership with the Global Compact, and PRME.

UN System Private Sector Focal Points Meeting
12–13 April 2011

Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries – Private Sector Track

Co-organized by the UN Global Compact Office, the Private Sector Track of the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries will enhance the contribution and active engagement of the private sector in advance of, and during, the LDC IV Conference. This series of events will help to identify concrete, action-oriented solutions to LDC-specific problems and challenges in the areas of investment, enterprise development, trade and finance.
