REZIDOR Hotel Group partners with UNHCR to support the campaign "Help the displaced in Egypt and Tunisia”. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the plight of the forcibly displaced and to inspire guests and employees to donate money to support UNHCR’s emergency operations in the region.
The conflict in Libya has triggered a massive outflow of people to neighbouring countries, especially to Egypt and Tunisia. By the end of May 2011, close to 900,000 men, women and children had fled across the Libyan border, many with injuries and harrowing stories to tell. UNHCR staff has worked tirelessly from the earliest days of the crisis to receive the displaced and provide those waiting at the border with tents, blankets, sleeping mats, food and water.
As a quick response to the massive and urgent needs, the REZIDOR Hotel Group has offered UNHCR an exclusive access to its staff and customers. Launched on June 1st, 2011, the campaign “Help the displaced in Egypt and Tunisia” aims to raise awareness about the plight of the forcibly displaced and to inspire guests and employees to donate money to support UNHCR’s emergency operations in the region.
During two months, in June and July 2011, hotel employees in more than 300 hotels in Europe, Africa and the Middle East were encouraged to contribute to UNHCR humanitarian emergency operations in Egypt and Tunisia. Hotel guests also had a chance to join REZIDOR staff efforts. Upon arrival at their hotel, guests could easily support UNHCR operations by donating spare change in donation boxes located at the hotel’s front desk. In some hotels participating in the promotion, guests wee also invited to add a small amount to their bill upon check out, as a donation to UNHCR.
